Dr. Mark Wilson
At an early age, I became interested in approaches to natural medicine and started using nutritional supplements in high school. I started doing yoga in 1972 when I was 19 years old and went to massage school in Santa Fe, New Mexico. While there I also studied iridology for a year, which is the study of using the iris of the eye as a diagnostic tool. I also had my first series of acupuncture treatments for problems I was having with hypoglycemia and had remarkable success. At that point I decided to become an acupuncturist.
In 1983 there were three acupuncture schools in the entire country. After I completed my studies at the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1986, I went to Guangzhou, China and worked in a traditional medical hospital which utilized both acupuncture and traditional Chinese herbs. The eye opener was working in the oncology and fertility clinics of the hospital. Acupuncture was so new that I wasn’t even aware that Chinese medicine treated those things – and very successfully. Consequently, I became interested in treating both, and have so extensively.
PROFESSIONAL CAREER
As a practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for 35 years, my training has been very extensive in the use of Chinese herbs as well as acupuncture. Chinese herbs are truly a treasure. Seeing patients with very complex problems, I realized that incorporating more functional medicine was essential. Consequently, I have focused a lot of attention to studying with functional medicine doctors and utilizing food based nutraceuticals. Currently I am using these different trainings for treating long covid.
I have been licensed in California as an acupuncturist since 1987. I then received my Doctor of Oriental Medicine in 1989.
